Finally - a new owner of an X5!

Hooray –after a long patient search (lasting a good 6 months) for my perfect E53 I’ve finally gone and bought one! I am now the proud and happy owner of a 2005 3.0d in Carbon Black, with all the options I was looking for (Comms Pack, heated leather seats etc.) and more.

Picked the car up a couple of days back, have to say the X drives like a dream. I actually felt more comfortable just cruising along at 70mph in the first/second lane of the motorway rather than thrashing it any further like I tend to do with my 1 series!

During my search I test drove 3 variants of the facelift X5 - the 3.0i, the 4.4i V8 and the 3.0d. I have to admit that nothing beats the drive of the V8, the 3.0i petrol just felt too underpowered for such a big vehicle. The 3.0d however is perfect for the more prudent amongst us!

Although during my extensive inspection of the vehicle there was nothing amiss I noticed the PDC was playing up last night. Whenever the PDC is engaged the sensors emit one continuous tone as though the car is stood next to an obstacle (no flashing PDC light though). Carried out the usual “check the clicks in the sensors” test and all seems fine but I think I may have uncovered the culprit – the front registration plate has come loose at the ends which I think may be blocking the line of sight of one of the front sensors. Tonight’s task it to get this sorted along with connecting my iphone 4 to the Bluetooth.

Just wanted to say thanks to all forum members who have helped with my various queries (special thanks to AW8 and Tombs). Hope to post pictures soon !

Great choice of X - but I am biased.
Well done on your purchase, and I agree, cruising is sooooo easy, but you can have fun too ;-)

Really pleased for you..........Thanks for sharing the good news. Whilst it may be too much to expect totally trouble free ownership I genuinely hope your patience in pruchasing a suitable example pays off.

Great car - congratulations !! I must admit I'm just the same - very happy to just cruise at a more steady pace down the motorway - it's such a lovely place to be ! Plus there's the benefit of real shove when you need it ...

Well done, glad you found the perfect car.

I also have plenty of grunt under the right foot but for some reason I tend to just relax at average speeds on the motorway... not sure what it is but it is probably a good thing. I must admit, i do give it a tickle when I have some plonker in a mondeo or something is right up my backside!

Thanks for all the supportive comments everyone - appreciate it.

I seem to find myself looking for any excuse to drive the thing and always seem to be reluctant to hand over the reigns to the missus! Was going to take some pics yesterday but the car looks really filthy (black really does bring out the dirt!) and having seen some of the polished examples on the forum I felt a little inadequate!

Managed to sort out the issue with the PDC - it was the registration plate after all (came loose and was blocking the range of sight of the sensor), and there was me feeling really cheesed off and dejected when I first realised this problem!

Was also playing around with the on board communications and was pleased to see (or hear!) that the CD changer is also MP3 capable. Worked out how I can display track information on the screen but still working on how I can list all the CD tracks on the screen though - any ideas!?

All in all really pleased so far
