I appreciate that I'm something of a dinosaur but still like my taste in music played from an iPod. To date, I've only used classic or touch models utilising the 30pin lead supplied with the car.
My question is, was there ever a later version for the lightning plug connection. Track info is handy on the cars display, and aftermarket leads seem not to offer this function.
** Well it seems like BMW offered one, part # 6112240801. None tor sale i can find after a quick search though.

Not sure what car or system you got but can’t you connect using Bluetooth?

Yes there was. 5th Generation iPod ‘Touch’ and newer are all lightning connector type beginning from 2012.

Bluetooth streaming came in for the model year 2011 X6, and possibly the late MY2010 built X5. Before that you needed a ‘Y’ cable that connected to the headphone socket and then to the car Aux + USB. Only worked if the car was optioned correctly. My Oct 2010 built (MY2011) X6 got the newer CIC iDrive and that supported it. The earlier CCC type didn’t (though I believe places like Cartronics will update the relevant module for you). The E70 got the CIC drive slightly earlier.
Option code SA6FLA - Audio/USB Interface was required.
Y-cable adapter is part number: 61122408012

My 2009 car supports the 30pin Y cable connection. I'm thinking i might 'upgrade' to a later generation iPod touch model. No point in having less features though.

So far, the sellers of non genuine have all confirmed no data transfer. Only charging and playback.

As above in my older car, with the exception of data transfer.

You should have about 20GB of hard drive space with the CCC drive. It’s not a huge amount I know, but might be an option?

Thanks for that.
I've always been happy with the 30pin Y lead arrangement. If i move up to a later model iPod, i just want the same facility but with the lightning plug option. I like that its basically fit and forget, and the I-drive assumes command.
I'll find one eventually. I've asked BMW UK, but would probably have to donate a kidney if they still have any

It seems Apple made a 30pin to lightning adaptor, £40 for a little adapter from most sellers
BUT, it doesn't transfer data anyway

If it has ‘MFA’ (Made for Apple) certification that pretty much guarantees doubling the price.

I'll wait on BMWs response. They're not in a rush though
