Count down for service seems stuck!
Greetings everyone,
My F15 4.0d 2018 was last serviced before the lockdown in 2020. The countdown was reset to 18000 miles. It's not done many miles since - 17000. Each occasion I've visited the dealers they say go by the countdown to determine the next service rather than time. It counted down as it should but for past 2000 miles or so it's been static at 3100 miles left to go. It should be reading about 1000!
Any thoughts please?
Graeme

Take it in and tell them to service it would be my take. Unless it’s on some kind of service pack, it’s up to you, not a computer. I was under the impression it was x miles OR two years, whichever comes first? No idea why it’s stuck though.

Oil and filter done every 7k or 12 months for my 2.
Would never leave it that long.

I’m doing the same annually. Oil from Costco is 1/2 price of Dealer (and high street shops). Mann Filters from Carparts4less.

20k service intervals are a bit long for sure but it should last the warranty anyway , every 10k here oil is cheap but timing chains are not

The cluster service indicator on mine stuck at 1400 miles for well over that amount. When I checked in iDrive, it was for the rear brakes due to be done in November this year. I reset it when I replaced the discs and pads, and now it's counting-down from 3900 miles.
iDrive says that's for the front brakes, also due in November this year.
I will try to remember to report back here if it sticks again.

Did you replace the wear sensor too ?, it needs replaced each time now as well to reset the counterStuBeeDoo wrote: Thu Apr 27, 2023 7:53 am The cluster service indicator on mine stuck at 1400 miles for well over that amount. No, I didn't. But the SI (which is now down to 3300mls) definitely relates to the front brakes.Leslie wrote: Thu Apr 27, 2023 11:35 pmDid you replace the wear sensor too ?, it needs replaced each time now as well to reset the counter

The wear sensor is only a good/bad detector, not actual wear. That’s a countdown based on brakes usage. At a guess, the reset didn’t take so it still thinks the old pads are in use. It’s always a good idea to change the sensor, but if it hasn’t tripped, or isn’t worn at all by disc contact, it should be OK.

The reset after the rear pads/discs replacement did work. It went from 1400 miles/November '23 to 29000 miles/sometime in 2026. And, no, the wear indicator sensor wasn't touched as it wasn't making contact. The current 3300 miles and counting-down is until front brake replacement in November this year.X5Sport wrote: Sat Apr 29, 2023 7:32 amAt a guess, the reset didn’t take so it still thinks the old pads are in use.
My apologies if I didn't explain properly in my earlier post(s).

That makes sense now. It’s still like the range meter in my i4, affectionately known as the GOM - Guess-O-Meter.

As of today, the counter is down to 1900 miles. Since that ^^^ post, the car has done 4200 miles.StuBeeDoo wrote: Sat Apr 29, 2023 3:56 pmThe current 3300 miles and counting-down is until front brake replacement in November this year.

It’s probably linked to inflation allowing Dealers to charge you more if it takes longer to count down…..

........And, a further 1100 miles on, it seems stuck at 1400 again.
Getting boring, I know, but I did say I would report back.
