I did mine from one of the ones that's powered-up with the ignition. But it was 5 years ago now, so I can't remember. TBH I can't even remember, now, which fusebox.

If you use one of the piggy back type leads with its own fuse, you can use any of the existing
Live or switched live as you prefer.

I’ve got mine powered from the 12V socket fuse as these are a switched live on the X6.

Mines on permanent live with parking sensor turned on and it turns off after a few min of no movement so if anyone hits it while parked it auto turns on and records without the permanent live the battery don’t last long

I’ve now moved it and tapped off the cigar lighter feed when I replaced the Roadhawk 2 with a Nextbase 622GW (needs a bit more power). You can get to it by removing the trim above the pedals (4 screws) and you can see a screw that holds the transmission tunnel side trim at the forward end. Remove the screw and carefully slide the trim forwards. The 12V socket feed is Green with a Red tracer on mine. The power supply for the Nextbase is just resting in the trim above the pedals.

Found the fuse box fairly easily yesterday and connected off the back of the 12v cigarette lighter fuse. However, when the ignition was turned on the dashcam stopped charging. And as soon as I turned the ignition off, it started charging again. It still shut down completely after a few minutes when the car was locked, as you’d expect. But the cigarette lighter continued to function correctly (charge a device when the car was on). I can’t get my head round why the dashcam would behave like this- I don’t believe it’s the fuse chosen.
Any suggestions?!

Weird! Fuses 36 & 37 should provide power - both show as 20A fuses?
Worth checking the power where it connects to the camera unit to see what it’s doing. What Dashcam have you got?
