Pre-heating control module is below the air intake plenum - which needs to be removed first.

To change the module, remove electrical connectors (1) and then undo the two screws holding it in place (2)

Has the module failed or the glowplugs (or both)? Previous bitter experience advises any glowplug change to also include the preheat controller module as these usually fail weeks after glowplugs get changed.

The module is usually made by BERU.

The intake plenum is the big yellow thing below, with the module where ‘7’ is. That’s the tightening sequence for the plenum itself. Quite a lot of stuff has to come off unless you can get to it from below.

I’ve got a feeling the alternator is in the way as well. It’s been a while since I looked, but I remember changing the oil filter needed care to avoid metal tools touching live wires!

Removing your DPF (if that’s what you plan) could lead to bigger issues. MOT Testers know how to find that and will fail your car.

5 of my heater plugs are out and my dpf still regens so I don't think that is your issue, 4 have been out last 3 plus years (2009 x5sd)
Is it getting up to temp as that is critical should be over 80c.

Temps are fine runs between 90 and 100 until the linbus code disappears it will never regen hens why I was looking at changing module it’s in next week for a gearbox service and all other fluids so I’ll book it in to be done
