Looking For 3.0d Sport in July

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and I'm decided on a 3.0d Sport.

I'll need the car by August so I'll be looking to buy in July. I'm posting here because I'm hoping I can tie up with anybody who is looking to sell around that time. I'm a bit precious about my cars and that's why I've come straight to the owners forum to advertise.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post in, but the For Sale section didn't seem to include wants.

So, my ideal spec:

1) Facelift 3.0d in Black, Blue or Dark Grey
2) Interior dark leather, preferably black, but not a deal breaker if it's not.
3) Comms Pack, Xenons, Heated Seats, Cruise Control are on my wish list.
4) Ideally 2004 to 2006.

In terms of the condition of the car. I'm fairly picky about paintwork and general condition of the exterior and interior. I'm the sort of person who parks at the opposite end of the car park to everybody else and so I'd love to buy from a like-minded (freak) person.I don't mind the odd scrape or ding on the bodywork, but it would have to be repairable without requiring a whole panel respray. I also don't mind spending money to keep my cars in excellent condition so I'd really like to buy from somebody who has obviously maintained the car to a high level.

I'm aware that all of this comes at a price and so I'm prepared to pay a bit extra for a car that has obviously had money spent on it already in the hope that it may help avoid any future nasty surprises.

Lastly, I have the money already so my budget is flexible depending on year/spec/mileage/condition.

Thanks for reading and sorry for waffling

Kris

Welcome aboard Kris, your post is fine in the place it is as I am sure it will be a general discussion point and advice from members on what to look for specifically for an X5.

Interesting enough, freak is the word often used to describe my (obsessive) car behaviour as I don't only park in the furthers point of a car park, if possible I will even park in the next car park :)

Obsessiveness does pay off as I have 4 completely unmarked showroom condition cars and a Polo runabout which I will use if there is any chance of risk ... :D

Hi Kris,

Nothing wrong in wanting to get the best car you can for your money and forum members will have history which you can check on and invariably are in better shape than others for sale. There is a friend not far from me who has a mint and I mean mint face lift X5 diesel who I was chatting to the other day, he was looking to jump back to the four rings and get himself a Le Mans A6. I'll let him know about your post, good luck with your hunt! :driving:

If it helps you at all in terms of what to pay, I recently aquired a car in your exact spec (with a few added options above your wishlist - sunroof, DSP, sliding boot etc) for £12k from a small dealer. The car was a 53 plate facelift and had done 97k with full BMW service history.

Before deciding I drove a pre-facelift 3.0D Sport on an 03 plate being sold by a Jag dealer with little spec who wanted £12.5k, which didn't seem like good value at all.

Good luck anyway

Thanks for the replies so far. I'd appreciate anybody pointing their friends towards this thread if they're looking to sell.

I'm going from Audi to BMW.

Thanks

Thanks for the PM's.

I'll read and reply to all of them, but there may be a small delay because I'm away with work a lot at the moment and I hate hotel room internet prices.

Hi,

Thanks for all the PM's everybody. I've managed to find a car to my liking close to where I live that ticks all the boxes.

Good luck to everyone who has PM'd me with a car to sell.

I'm enjoying my X5 ownership so far and I'm just working on doing all the usual upgrades to get it as up to date as possible.

Here they are.

It's a sports exclusive edition with Comms Pack, Climate Pack, Sports Plus Pack and the Premium Pack. Ive just had all the tyres replaced with Toyos as recommended on here plus the tracking set up and the tyres filled with Nitrogen. It seems to be riding much better now.

When I bought the car I checked the tyre pressures and they were all over the place and the tyres were worn very unevenly. I've attached a scan of the tracking report before and after. It's quite 'interesting.'

I've upgraded the navigation and software etc and I'm currently looking at ways to fully integrate my iPhone 4 plus enabling vehicle in motion etc. I also plan to change the freeview receiver/aerial for a more powerful one. The best way to integrate my phone seems to be Intravee 2, Alpine KCA, Spec Dock(?) etc. Has anybody found a better way?

I'd really appreciate opinions on the tracking report. It was quite a long way out and I had it returned to factory tolerances.

All advice greatly received.

Kris

Hi,

The tyre wear was on the outside edges for the front two tyres and in the middle for the rear two. The tyre pressures were not above 30 psi on any of the tyres and ranged from about 23 to 27 psi max. I think that the rears being worn in the middle usually points to over inflation, but that wasn't the case when I picked the car up. I wonder whether it was something to do with the camber being so far out at the rear?

New tyres are great. The tracking seems spot on at the moment. Pro Tyre Gloucester supplied and fitted the tyres and did the tracking/camber. They tyres were around £660 fitted inc VAT and so far I'm impressed. It rides very well even though it's on the 20" wheels. I have come from a sporty Audi so my tolerances to a firm ride may be greater than most.

It feels great on the motorway and there is very little tyre noise. I'm going to keep an eye on wear rate etc. I'd also recommend filling the tyres with Nitrogen. (I know the maths and atmospheric concentration arguments, but I swear my Audi felt better after doing it so I'll ignore that, so there :D)
