Mobile phone, plug in chargers?

I'm happy to show my ignorance here, does the cigarette lighter end of these items have anything fancy in it, power stepping or whatever?

I use a Nokia X2 these days, quite enough for my needs but the lack of a BMW cradle, despite their cost is a frustration as charging is now a messy arrangement with curly cords cluttering the interior. I'd like to hard-wire something from the rear lighter socket and run the plug to phone into the under armrest tray area where i generally leave the phone. OR, is there any way to tap into the BMW/BT phone multiplug in the armrest?
