Motorola V50 users - help please.

Chaps, I just bought a v50 off Ebay. Its all working fine in the car, very happy, :D but I don't have a manual to refer to, neither can I find one to download, anyone know of a download?

My main question is, do you guys leave the phone in the car?, I guess this is for anyone who parks on the street!

If I do, and its in its cradle, its visible, its bright silver and might attract some oik who steals shiny things because hes too off his head to steal anything valuable! I could cover it with something.

But one more question, I know if the phone is off, and you start the car, it starts the phone. But if its left connected, and you turn the car off, will that turn the phone off after a while (doesn't seem to straight away)? Or will the phone stay left on? Senario 2, oik walks past car at exact time other oik calls my (spare hardly used) phone as a wrong number, hears phone, smashes window only to steal a scuffed 8 year old phone! :(

Which brings me back to me needing a manual, I can't see how to turn the ringer off, but still have it ring through the car speakers.

Trust me, these things happen in London! I once walked round the corner and every car in the street had been keyed by some scumbag. Luckily mine was parked elsewhere that night!

Hi BWG, Does the V50 that you bought off fleabay have the BMW logo on the screen? if not it won't have the BMW firmware installed. If it doesn't have the fireware it won't switch off and will keep charging and will also flatten the battery pretty quickly to. So you may have no option but to take the phone with you each time you leave the car. Sorry can't help regarding the other bits HTH

Hi chompers, yes it has the BMW firmware for sure, and the BMW logo in startup. But when I turn the ignition right off, the phone stays on. Does it turn off after say 5 mins or something? I guess when it was designed the idea was the v50 would be your main phone, so you would take it with you!

Phew, just been building a new shed in the garden!

Thanks for all you help guys. Its good to know it does shut down, I'll just leave it in the car.

Re visibility, I no longer have the X5, this is in my 330 Touring. Same setup as the X5 of the same year (52), but the armrest is quite short, and it doesn't cover the phone, I might just have to tuck it back under the armrest a bit when leaving the car as it is actually very visible. Another thing I miss about my X5, the huge armrest!

Thanks for the manual link AW8, thats a great help! :D

Does the armrest not slide forward in them?

You're a shed man x555! good man. I now have 3 sheds in the garden, 3rd one is purely for bikes, bike rack, bike and car tools! The wife just looks out and shakes her head when I'm 'tending' my sheds!

Heres a pic of it, I just tried to slide the armrest forward Turks, no joy there. Maybe there is a different armrest setup I could buy, I'll have a look.

My guess is that when they designed it they expected the V50 to be your main mobile phone, and therefore you would always take it with you. I'll just have to connect it each time I get in I reckon.
