Sat nav radio head

Post by Andnorr » Tue Mar 22, 2022 7:30 am

Hi I have a strange problem with my head unit on a 2005 x5. The head unit has a white bar along the bottom of the screen it occasionally shows the complete screen for a few seconds but goes blank again except for the white bar on the bottom the radio works fine just the display problem It all started after the battery went flat it seemed to kill the sat nav unit so I have replaced that.

I'm assuming this is the same system as in the E46. If you don't eject the nav disc before re-connecting the battery it kills the laser in the disc reader. It will happen every time - trust me, I know from expensive experience. :(

The white line on the screen is dead pixels. You either have to live with it, source a second-hand head unit that is known to be OK, source a replacement screen (expensive, but they are available if you search hard enough), or replace the head unit with something like a Dynavin.

Ok thanks for the reply. I should have explained that The white line is about a cm high and has two sets of dashes at each end what look like for the time or date.
