You're right, this is a fantastic unit. I can't see the link unless I go through registration/logon, etc. BUT this unit you have pics of is for the E46/E39, hear this is not available for the X5, hope I'm wrong. Much better looking unit too...

Can you expand on the link, is there one available for the X?

im researching it now and the unit for the x5 e53 is called the DVN-E39, its somewhat uglier in all honesty.
but the features are the same. and the choice of map apps are immense!

but the best bit, is there is android OS coming for it with google maps and android apps for it.

now, where to buy and install it in the uk?

Yeap, that's the one - pig ugly!

Need the one you posted to be woth considering! Seen it in the flesh, LOVELY unit!

If you want it, ask John at CarVision - he ha them (the ugly one's)! An dhe can get the new E46 one's. Just not right for the X...

I am glad I seen this post, I awaiting delivery of my new steering wheel from Royal steering wheels and apart from a few mechanic issues to sort out first (handbrake mech, thermostat and braking issue)this is my next mod, I am very interested to see what unit to buy, the Hualingan or Dynavin, any info you find out I would greatly appreciate or if buying two units saves money then count me in.

ok so im literally researching this to death.
i am not basing my research on the e46 unit, only on the e53 unit.

you WILL spend more on purchasing the Dynavin.
however, the flexibility of the software means that the extra you spend over the hualingan pays for itself.
for example, on maps you can use ndrive, igo, navigon, tom tom, etc. aswell as any map app available for android once the android update is out.

I have used many sat navigation software and always found tom tom to be the best but once the android software is installed does this mean you can't use tom tom as its not available for android?

I thought the other unit could run third party sat navigation or is that the e46 unit only?

Many thanks

Back to looking for a new head unit too as fed up of crackly speakers and no postcode search. Was going to go down the hualingan route but will now have to see how this thread progresses!

I know what you mean about the postcode feature (or lack thereof). BMW really let buyers down when the facelift (late 2003) didn't benefit from a new comms pack (i.e. iDrive), but kept the system from the E39 (which dates from around 1995!). Hence these systems are at least 16 years old technology!!!! :o

However, I wouldn't expect a new headunit to resolve "crackly" speakers - this I suspect is a problem with the speakers and/or amp, which in the base config are frankly rubbish! :(

They are new speakers and from what i can gather from other people on here it is the radio module in the boot that has dry joints......hoping a new head unit will get around this

Are you just looking to replace the current setup or would you want to repair your RCM?

Depends which you have though, if the repair route is your choice. BM24 is possible the later BM54 is not - you need to do a by-pass of the board chips to phono connectors instead.

Test the existing speaker that crackles by connecting it to an external source, the home hi-fi perhaps with extra long speaker cable. No need to have the car on either. THEN try with the car on to see if you are getting interference from the chassis on startup.
