Post by X5Andym » Fri Apr 30, 2021 10:57 am

Hi all

Help please, done a silly think, don't ask me why... :headbang: filled my power steering reservoir with 5w-30 engine oil... than realized what I had done, did not start the engine, uses a SIRENGE to remove the all the oil.. clean rags to clean the inside of the reservoir, top up with the correct ATF fluid.. started the car... seems ok.. :driving:

Any advice please.. apart from what a w.......

Cheers

Andy

You’ll be fine. It could have been the brakes! You also noticed (albeit late) and took immediate action.

You can always get a fluid change done as soon as you can. Engine oil is denser than ATF so some could have gone into the system. It’s still an oil :D

No need for rude names…..we’ve all done silly things ourselves. I took a wrong bolt out (misread the instructions) and needed a gearbox rebuild because I couldn’t get it back in (it was the reverse detent pin)! That was expensive, and it was the wife’s car!!
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
