Hi all,

I'm new to forum (obviously ;) ) and I joined because I'm looking for an X5, I've wanted one for a couple of years now as I'm 'growing up' and realise it's not fun for people to climb in the back of a 911 or 840Ci :?

I used to be an active member of other boards, namely BMW5 and BMWcarclub, 911 forum etc.. and now hopefully here....

I currently drive a BMW 840Ci, and got rid of my 911. the 840 is actually the longest I've ever owned a car, i've had her more than 6 years now and will never sell her. Previous rides too many to mention; i've had an E39 M5, 2xE39 540's (1 Touring 1 saloon) 3xE39 528i Sports (saloon>touring>saloon. Dogs always prompt the purchase of a touring ;) ) about 10 E46's some E36's, E34 M5 and loads of E34 525's blah blah waffling......... I like BMW (i think i've had 31 BMW's)

SO, now it's time for an X5, I want sensible, practical, good looking, reliable, fun to drive with plenty toys :) somewhere to stick a dog in the back (I don't actually have a dog at the minute, but I'd like to know I can put one in the bacl :) ) put a bike rack on the back, and actually get people in the back seats too (when a 3 year old complains that they don't like a Porsche 911 because it's too small, and prefers the E31 but still says it's too small, then it must be too small. 3 year olds don't lie, much!).

Ok, so i think now is the time to stop, i'll be telling you about the blister on my foot at this rate........

I will probably be asking a few stupid, already asked/answered questions during my quest to find my X5.

Cheers,

JV

Welcome to the Club :D

Don't worry aboyt askng dumb questions as I sspec that almost all of us will have dne it at one stage or other. Some of use more frequently - and yes I do count myself in that group

I found the same issue with people getting in and out of cramped rear seats and chose the E53 to get away from that. These days I find it's me that can't get in and out - must be a sign of advancing age...........muses to self.

Anyway, welcome............

Welcome aboard,

31 BMWs..............I think that demonstrates brand loyalty.

With your ownership history you should be pretty switched on with used BMWs but you may find some aspects of this of some use.

Good Luck :)

Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you will find all the information you need! I love the E39's and still struggle to get away wanting another... thats partly the reason I got the X5 - The cabin is very similar and has got the toys and more that the E39 had.

You don't seem to be too afraid of big engines... so, get the 4.8is! You will not be disappointed and you will be pleasantly surprised at the mpg for such a big engine. The sound is fantastic and they also come with most of the options as standard (fully adjustable air suspension, heated front seats, adaptive xenons, soft nappa leather etc etc).

My other reasons for going to an X5 was also that I had dogs (two big dobermans) and needed something that I could put them in without me losing the luxury and power of a BMW. They are both very comfortable in the back of the X5!

Good luck with your search!

Hey all, thanks for the replies and welcomes. I didn't even realise anyone replied, i mustn't have the email replies option ticked!

Yes I'm loyal to the brand, although i did stray with the 911 and the RR, but i also had a BMW at the same time :) (i've also had more than 30 'other' brands :O )

I have now purchased a motor, i got a 2005 4.4 sport, black/black (not x555, x555 ;) ) I did want the 4.8is but i'm an impulse buyer, and sent my sister out to buy a car while I'm at work (i work overseas....) so, i haven't even seen it in the flesh yet! ha ha!

oops..........................

Hard to criticise a sound 911 purchase......Most if not all on here are car enthusiasts & many of us would have more sports focused metal were it not for practical useage & need considerations.

I am assuming you have a switched on & trusted sister.............Many wouldnt dream of buying like this - hat off to you for bravery.

Whilst I often advocate cautious buying sometimes less stress can follow from a brief & uncomplicated buying process.

Hope it all works out ok :)

60 cars in total? You are either about 100 years old (similar to Sanj) or change cars every month or so .. :o

Great intro though

So a little update guys and gal(s?) I'm sitting here itching to get home to my new toy and hate the fact that I can't! :(

The X arrived home safely 4 weeks ago, and yes I have a very trusted and clued up sister (and her husband) she collected my E39 M5 for me too, only a 600 mile journey for her

After purchasing impulsively (as I always do) I started to regret the purchase of the 4.4 sport and wish I'd got the 4.8is, since I bought that I've started to spot more and more good 4.8is's.... never mind though, after the 911 C4 I wished I'd bought the turbo (and also wished I never sold the E39 M5)..... I'm sure I will love it.

So, I still have a LONG time before going to play with it :tumbleweed: I just took 3 weeks off and went to Bulgaria and Italy and back to work. I will be able to report on the new toy in July, I feel I need something to write on here instead of reading :headbang:

I'm awaiting the arrival of some 168's which will go on the moment i get home. I also fancy some of those nice bright LED's I've seen pics of, especially for the footwell and puddle lights. And just generally considering lots of things, like having it re-mapped etc..

I will share pics when I can get some decent ones, my sis' took some on her phone for me, but she'll never get a job as a photographer bless her! :?

Ramblings over - so if i can manage to get them to work, here's some random pics past and present (we all like a few pics to reminisce :) ) :

I think that will do, my copy>paste finger is hurting.

Edit: Evidently that didn't work, so what am I doing wrong? Hmmm.......

MOD Edit PVR - I have done the first one for you so can you do the rest if you look at your code?
