Hi Guys, Newbie here. Always wanted an x5. I found a classic x5 4.4 petrol 2001. Not a doer upper, runs well. Don't want to run about. Less than 200,000 on clock. What are the pit falls with the 4.4 , if any, what should i be looking out for.
Cheers.

Timing chain guides, valley gaskets leak, coolant hoses at the top/rear of the engine, gearbox failure ...... oh and they drink fuel a bit too. On the other hand, if it’s a good one then the V8 sound is allegedly irresistible.

....and :hi:

Look at the rear tyres for wear on the inside edge

At near 200k much will have been renewed already

In my experience, rear subframe bushes are weak, replaced as a set is circa £1k

V8s are prone to various oil leaks, cam covers and timing chain cover gaskets.

All E53s with 20" staggered wheels eat tyres if geometry is not spot on.

Like any car of that age and mileage expect (expensive) issues to arise.

V8 exhaust burble is lovely, still miss mine
