Hi all, just bought my first BMW and loving it. 2005 X5 Sport 3d auto. Got the usual negative comments about cost of fuel, tyres and servicing from friends and family of which none have owned one! Love the car but fed up with the comments from people who know very little about them. Hopefully I can get some sound advice from this forum, have read a few posts and have found the forum members here to be the best informed on the X5 of all the forums I have searched. Looking forward to hearing some good advice and reading your well informed posts. Cheers

All of their comments are right but who cares hey! It's worth it to drive one. No 50k + new car is going to be peanuts to look after. As long as you purchased one with a good history that has been looked after you can over come most things that come up.

I have battled with getting rid of mine for the last year but truth is I still really like it and nothing else matches up.

I tend to judge the combined quality & qualification of the commentator(s) before being too concerned about the commentary.

I apply this re all matters & not just cars.

Some folk seem to relish in making negative comments re others satisfied choices & one not always with kind motive.

A colleague of mine recently paid far more to cause a service to be performed on non preium badged mainstream saloon (that has lost far more residually in last year than mine), than I paid for having the equivalent work done, (not by me), on my X5, (albeit after my careful negotiation & supplying own oil). He shook his head & said "I really find that incredibly hard to believe." He also commented he thought it a cheek that I supplied my own oil......Oh well - More mugs allow more margin to accomodate the wise.

Such critical commentators seldom listen to helpful advice, perhaps because they prefer sound of own ignorance.

I tend to keep views to myself unless asked &/or genuinely likely to be both appreciated & acted on.

Hi mate, welcome to the forum...

As said by others, ignore the comments as best as you can. The root of them all is jealousy whether its because they can't afford one (not usually the case as they are affordable) or that they wish they had got one (instead of their car that drops in value like faster than a second hand glider engine!).

I remember upsetting a colleague once who was trying to upset me when I first bought the X5. He said something along the lines of "I couldn't justify spending that sort of money on a stupid car and the money running it!" to which I replied "Yeah I know what you mean, I'd struggle to justify it too if I had teeth like yours and still lived at home with mummy and daddy!"

Thanks for all friendly and positive feed back, I'll have to the remember the one about the teeth and living with Mum Still finding my way around the Forum, have found some great advice and had a few laughs at some of the friendly banter, what is it with guys and size can't believe the wheel size debaits out there, going to get the biggest set of wheels ever before I put my pics up Thanks again XDrivers.

P.s What is the biggest wheels out there?????
