Seriously though, I couldnt say what the problem is other than it appears that its reverted to a very basic display. Might be worth reinstalling the latest firmware and see if that helps.

Try disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes.
Sure I've seen a post similar to this on the old forum.

FYI i had exactly the same issue, and this is an early sign of DVD laser failure.
i know, it doesnt sound like it and its an odd symptom but i promise thats what it was for me.

I had this in the E39. I used a cleaning disc in the Nav Unit and then cleaned the Nav DVD. Seemed to sort it out...

I've had an occasional error in reading the DVD pop up on my Nav....have cleaned with a cleaning disc and it seems to run perfectly after that. Hopefully if it packs up completely it'll do it under warranty
