Extra sound deadening

Has anyone done this to their X5?
We have a Range rover sport too and it's so much more refined.
Yes I know it has the engine isolated from the chassis which in turn is isolated from the body so it will always feel more luxurious.
I'm thinking of doing my X5 bit by bit - inside the doors, under the carpet etc and maybe behind the wheel arch plastic guards (I found a product specially for that) to stop me buying another car..
I'm aware that it can get a bit costly but I'm interested to see what happens.
