Just thinking out loud..
Has anyone put a lift kit on their X5? I’ve spotted a polyurethane spacer kit that raises the car by 30mm apparently on eBay. I’m either going to start modifying mine somehow or get another car as I’m getting bored..

Never mind that lifting rubbish I've got a more pressing issue..
The os front has a faint knocking joint somewhere but worse than that, when I reverse to the right on full lock I get an almighty thud under the car at the front half way around the turn.
I think it may be the anti roll bar somehow as the bang seems to come from just under and in front of the foot well. If it ever dries up a bit I need to take a butchers.
Why not lift an X5 anyway?

Oh dear.. I found what was causing the clunking.
You will never believe it - all 6, yes 6, front subframe bolts were only finger tight. In fact one of them was only in by just over one turn so could have gone awol anytime.
I was messing about with the engine mounts nearly two years ago so they have worked loose since then.
No wonder the car felt a bit 'wayward' on the road...

Good you found out about this. Could have been a nasty outcome, perhaps buy a lottery ticket this week.

Good find that could have been a disaster if it parted company
would have lowered the car rather than lifted it

Didn’t have any locktite so I wrenched them up with a 3’ breaker bar.. They should stay tight for 3 years now.

Mock mock but I’m going to check mine in the morning as I changed my engine mounts last year. Good find.

No they weren’t I did use quite a long bar when originally tightening. Didn’t torque. Used the FT principle.

Talking of engine mounts - I swapped mine for new ones two years ago as I thought they were on their way out but the new ones transmitted so much vibration it was horrible. At idle the engine felt like it was bolted directly to the chassis. I put the originals back on and it seemed ok.
I have since discovered that the source of my vibrations was a loose exhaust bracket at the back but I also think that my torque converter has a drone at about 2 - 2200 rpm. Some days it’s ok and some days it’s not. I’ve also looked at the driveshaft guibos and centre bearing carrier and I think they are ok.
The symptoms I get is a drone at the rpm above when I accelerate. In park and reving the engine it’s ok.
Anyone got any suggestions?

I know your suggesting that it’s underneath but have a look at the auxiliary belt tensioners. Need someone to give a sharp burst of revs while you look and see how much deflection the tensioner allows.
