Not the X5 but the Alpina, soooo annoyed initially failed because the rear left indicator wasn’t amber enough. Changed bulb and passed. Why did that have to be recorded as a fail rectified during test.

If that's the only fail id be very happy , here in Northern Ireland they only inspect as all government run and they are strict !!!!!!!! They still haven't Mot'ed any cars since January though just exempted everything till now :headbang:

It's annoying if you have a record of first time passes i had that and the tester is a m8 of nearly 40 years and he changed the bulb during the test at no cost.

Ex mate lol? :D yes can see it's there forever now best get another car and start again. Suppose he has to fail some to look like he is doing a good job.

I searched around here when I moved because they always have a problem getting the sliding jack back to lift the rear of the M3. Found a place which was brilliant and did the X5 as well, should have taken the Alpina there. I know the fail/pass was my own fault but I’m still pissed.

It's all down to the DVSA system.
Each garage has a pass rate set on a traffic light's sort of.
If they pass too many they will drop into the amber also fail too many same again and the garage like to stay in the green.
I think it's wrong as if a car passes it passes but if the garage is in the amber (they can see the % rate) and they find a bulb out like in the op's case they will do the fail as they did to get the % and nearer to getting back in the green.
Does that waffle make any sense to anybody.

As Alan mentions sometimes they fail a car for a simple thing for the quota as they know it's a quick fix and retest/pass. Makes it look like they are being accurate with their testing.
