Gas smell inside cabin while driving

Hi All

I have a 2012 BMW X6 M50D with 40000 miles on it
Was doing a 300 mile trip and started noticing faint "gas" smell coming through the vents. When i say gas i mean natural gas smell - liek the one in your home or BBQ canister, not fuel.
The smell was not consistent but was definitely there. Have looked at forums and under bonnet for any obvious leaks e.g. oil leaking onto exhaust or exhaust pipe leaks
but everything looks intact.

Any assistance appreciated.

Thanks
Sam

Quick update: Took off the engine cover and the foam cover on the injectors. Found a wet residue around each injector but on injector 4 it was a puddle/pool. It was brownish in color and did not have a particular smell. My initial thought was oil. See pictures

Possibilities are:
1.Injector seals leaking....ends up being called the black death....google it

2.Your scuttle panel seals are leaking water...happened on my X6 (2009) and knocked out 3 injectors as they are piezo ignited they dont like water :headbang:
