It's normal - they are low voltage and can be seen being tested by the car. Nothing to worry about.

Yeap happens on mine. We did have an old thread on this in the old world and it was common regardless of which bulbs your bought.

Nice little disco.

It is only for a few seconds if you have your lights turned off or it is in the day time. If your lights are switched on or you have auto lights you won't get the low voltage test so there is no flicker.

Hi guys. I have a 2002 x5d sport just bought says I have xenon. Don't know much about these cars. I do however love it. The lights look like two normal inners and 2 round clear magnified marbles on the outer with a glass ring around them. Are these the xenons. Can I swap out for angel eyes?
Thanks.

Hi Garry (Not Gray  ), can you manually adjust the high of your headlights using the wheel on the headlight control panel? If you can they are STD lights if you can't they are Xenon as these self adjust. HTH

EDIT: Note to self, have first cup of coffee in the morning before first post

Mine is always set to Auto too...

I don't think I made myself very clear. If your LED's are illuminated, i.e switched on (auto if it is dark), then you shouldn't get this flicker. The only time you will get this is if the LED's are off (auto if light) and it performs the test on startup.

I have only ever noticed the flicker once. This was a reflection on the parked car in front of me in the daylight. Same in my E39, only did it in the daytime for a couple of seconds and then I never noticed it again?

Do you experience different from what I have said?

I've also fitted HID's to the car and mine too are always set on auto, however, when its dark, i turn the key and everything burst into life, but when the car is starting up, the headlights go out a wont come back on when the car is running but the angel eyes do, then i have to turn all lights off, set it to 'normal' on, then switch quickly back to auto, pain in the preverbial tbh, they were bought me as a present, could it just be that they're not BMW specific and i need to change them ??? :headbang:
