anyone know what this is please?

hi all
so i popped the bonnet today and noticed this and that the tube which looks like some form of vacuem tube is not actuallly connected .
any ideas, thanks in advance

It needs connecting! It’s the vacuum reservoir for the turbocharger control valve. Without it being connected you will lose boost. Both hoses need to be connected.

newtis.info is a copy of the BMW Service Instructions. You have a M57TU engine.

For parts data, use Realoem and put the last 7 of your VIN into the ‘Serial Number’ box to pull up your model.

There are a number of BMW Vin decoders that you can use to find the initial factory build spec. Some need all 17 characters, other just the last 7.

It should be connected to the turbo.
You can see the other part of the pipe still connected (coming off the newish/shiny part in the background of the picture) .
Needs a new length of pipe then the turbo will work again.
