Not sure if this is a problem or normal for the car.
2011 3.0d 79k 7 seat with 19” 223 with star marked tyres.

Don’t drive the car much, wife drives it daily, but I have noticed when driving and say slowing down for traffic lights and then lights change before coming to a stop I push the accelerator and the car for a split second seems as though it’s not in gear and revs rise the slightest amount and then it finds gear, the same also happens when slowing down to turn into a road, slow down turn into road then accelerate and same thing happens, it only happens for a split second and not all the time.
It’s like the car has not changed into the right gear fast enough and is being indecisive before choosing the gear it wants to be in.
Apart from that the car goes through all gears smoothly, no judders on full lock or anything.

Something to be worried about? I will be getting the gearbox serviced in the new year, but wanted to know if this common or if it’s the start of something.

Sounds like usual turbo lag to me. Our 4.0d is similar if I am gentle on the pedal. Try it in sport mode so it’s more responsive and see if it still does it.....ours doesn’t! Failing that carry out a throttle/gearbox adaption reset and see if that changes anything....

Find a good recommended indi and get a code scan done with proper bmw kit.
Could get the box serviced as well as it is due take no notice of bmw saying sealed for life it's not.
Get the box adaptations reset.

It's an auto and the box only locks up in top gear as I understand it so when you accelerate after coasting the revs will rise first with not much happening then you gas it and it takes off too fast

Thanks for the replies and sorry for my late reply, been working away.

I have found a zf specialist in Hove, about £400 to service the box and replace sleeve, so will book that in at some point.

How do I go about resetting the adaptions? I have heard about it with different BMW’s but thought it was a bit of a myth?

And Huxsta, I have to say I am gentle on the pedal where I don’t drive it that often, my wife doesn’t complain of anything and she drives it daily. So maybe it’s just me and the way I drive it, think I am over cautious incase I break it! Haha!

The zf specialist should be able to reset the adaptations for you.
It's probable that it is part of the service not sure but they can do it.

I will have a chat with them when I book it in, I don’t live far from Munich Legends and my old E53 use to go there, and also had gearbox service done there. but sad to say they never bother getting back to me or replying to emails, so thought I would try someone who specialise in these gearboxes.

When I say ‘reset’ I am referring to the throttle reset procedure. If you put your key in, press the start button only (no clutch so it does not start) then press the accelerator to the floor past the kick down point (ie bury it into the carpet) hold it there for more than 25 secs and start the car as normal. It resets parameters that make the car feel more responsive and not lazy. I have just reset ours and I did not say anything to my wife. Whilst driving her around Xmas shopping, she has looked across a few times to see if I have it in ds mode (she hates it) and has said it feels like it’s nippier away from the traffic lights etc, she still doesn’t know what I’ve done. It isn’t the same as ds mode, but it gets rid of that lazy wait for something to happen, when the lights change to green.
