48hrs to viewing!
Hi all, my first post on a BMW site. I have come from LR Discovery Sport, less said about that the better. So I am going to see a 2015 plate (see signature below) on Thursday with a view to buying it, any advice or guidance on what to look out for would be much appreciated
it has a full BMW history and 68000 miles on the clock. Looking forward to gaining valuable advice and helping out where I can on this forum so big hello to all

Welcome to the forum, I came from a Discovery 4 to an X5 40d last November, after the crankshaft on the Discovery snapped at twenty thousand miles and at two and a half years old!!
Loving the X5 so far, it’s much more economical, fun to drive, pretty quick for a big car, tows the caravan like a dream, but not sure I would want to venture far off road in it. However it does everything we need and more.

Thanks Wafarer, I had loads of issues with the oil dilution, dpf and various software glitches! Hoping that this is the right move, need a big car that can be relied on when needed with the comfort of the DS. I will have a good check over of the X5 before taking the plunge, would like to think with it having the dealership service history that it has had any issues addressed early. Time will tell

Yes they are big, but sure you will be pleasantly surprised by the comfort of the ride and the way they go round corners. For a two ton plus car the performance is very good as is the fuel economy.
Had various Land Rover products over the last 20 years and all have been good, and fairly reliable, until the last one, which to be honest was faultless until the crank broke, meaning a new engine and turbo’s, fortunately fitted by Land Rover under manufacturer warranty.
Then to my amazement discovered that if I encountered a further failure after the end of the manufacturer’s warranty and took out the Land Rover extended warranty this warranty didn’t cover the crank failure as it’s “a known manufacturing fault” and that I would have to rely on Land Rover goodwill!
So picked it up from dealer with new engine fitted Drove it home, parked it up and then traded it in for an X5.
Are you getting yours from a bmw dealer, if so, it should come with a comprehensive warranty, if from elsewhere, make sure it’s got a decent warranty, as they can be expensive if they go wrong, sure a lot more knowledgeable members will come along with further info and advise

It’s a private sale, it had a BMW health check today by its current owner and had no issues. Not sure where to go for a warranty, I have always bought from dealers in the past so this is new to me. I have a mate who is a mechanic so will give him a shout and see what he thinks is best, I think most cars now are expensive if they go wrong. Roll on Thursday, two bus trips and a plane flight to get there! But will be worth it fingers crossedWayfarer wrote: Tue Oct 08, 2019 1:31 pm Yes they are big, but sure you will be pleasantly surprised by the comfort of the ride and the way they go round corners. I'd check with the current owner if he had the bmw extended warranty on it as its transferrable, even if only a few days to run if would allow you to renew, alternatively as it's got a full bmw service history you may be able to start one especially as it's just had a bmw health check BMW Insured Warranty Services number is 0345 641 9790, and you can also get a quote on line.
In my opinion the bmw one is likely to be the best warranty for a BMW, after that warranty direct appears to be ok, and seems to fair well on the Disco forum, if that helps, although your mechanic may have better options.
Good luck, looking forward to seeing some photos when you have collected it.

Re: 48hrs to viewing!
Good news, glad you are happy with your purchase.
Better drive than a Land Rover on uk roads, although don't think I'd want to venture far off the tarmac in an X5
I suppose it depends on what warranty you go with, but think I would be tempted to have the first service of your ownership done by BMW, depending on price.
I was pleasantly surprised with the BMW service costs compared to my bmw indy, on my 3 series although only basically an oil change the price difference was about £25.
Look forward to seeing some photos when it dries up.

Stunning car, enjoy it, so much more enjoyable to drive on the road after a Land Rover product!
