Got told mine was no longer mandatory after it was taken in and I had booked time off. Not impressed. Something odd has happened to BMWs quality control on various models. At one point recently there were eleven recalls being progressed.

I was told part of it was as a result of the EU Regs covering what manufacturers can claim as a service/product enhancement and what really is a genuine recall. How true this actually is I can not verify.

Car is a 2007 model 3.0d SE first registered April 2008, 167k miles that I've owned for nearly 11 years. After the recall notice arrived, I had the alternator bolt replaced early in June. There appear to be 2 new small shiny plastic pulleys above the alternator, one with a bright new torx bolt in the centre, the other with a plastic dome in the centre . Since then had a woo woo noise at about 1500-1700 rpm in any gear, most audible on smooth surfaces in 4th, 5th or 6th gear when tyre noise is less obvious. As woo woo noise is not speed dependent that suggests engine related rather than wheel bearings, tyres or gearbox. Suspect either pully bearing faulty or belt not tensioned properly - does anyone have any thoughts?

Booked car in today for heater switch recall and described noise. They will look at source. Wanted £99 + vat for diagnosis but after pointing out noise began after last recall issue addressed said "Oh, it was a recall was it" - !!!!!! Job to be done on Friday next. Watch this space...

It will be interesting to know exactly what is happening to this heater plug, good luck Friday.

And now I have a recall notice for the same issue that some months ago was ‘for information, no action’. BMW GB need to make their bl@@dy minds up! Having wasted my time last time around I’m very unimpressed to have it come back yet again. They will do the work this time regardless - or they’ll get a bill at my commercial charge out rate used by my employer (no it isn’t tuppence halfpenny!).

Go this recall yesterday too. Does anyone know how long it should take?

It's the only recall I've had on my 2010 40D in the 3.5 years I've had it...am I missing a few?!
(allegedly the prop/diff was 'checked' a year or 2 before I bought the car)

I’ve had the heater plug and the alternator recall done yesterday. It was in all day and included a complimentary health check (looking for work) and valet. Apart from an engine oil leak I knew about it was all good, not bad for 180,000 miles.
I had a 19 plate Mini Cooper Sport for the day, it was ok, but it was nice to get back into the X5.

Job done today - and letter said it would take 2 hours. They had the car most of the day but it was ready before time we agreed. Service team also road tested and inspected car to locate woo-woo whine I thought came from fan belt and new pully fitted under last recall in June - foc and video of health-check sent to me. Turns out to be a front wheel bearing making the noise! Car valeted too so fully satisfied with service provided.

Booked in for end of the month. Should take around 90 mins. It is now a ‘replace’ rather than a ‘check and if necessary, replace’ or so I was told. Car safe to use as long as there are no nasty smells.....or smoke :o
