After my recent gearbox woes, got the car back and thought I’d get round to looking at my rain sensor - I was after a slightly cheaper repair job!
Looking through the windscreen it was clear that bubbles had formed in the old sticky pad somehow so I ordered one for £5.95 off fleabay.

So after unclipping the plastic surround and removing the electronics from the screen mounted plate - (VERY important you don’t unplug the wiring or it will need re-calibrating apparently) I set about cleaning the old sticky goop off the sensor plate - that took a while with some Isopropyl Alcohol and a plastic scraper, the windscreen cleaned much more easily.
Applied the new sticky pad and hey presto it works, £5.95 well spent!

Re: Rain Sensor - Fixed
Another good result. At one time that meant a new screen or use of some silicone sealant to get them working again. It should - and now seems perfectly achievable - just be a pad change. If any of mine go, I now know what to look for.
