Driving my wifes 2013 x3 in stop start traffic if you accelerate briefly up to say 10mph and let off it feels clunky
its fine through all gears and its only wen u are going very slowly and let off throttle any ideas anyone? Iv read its normal but surely not

This isn't much of an answer, but have you tried driving another similar car to see if you can replicate it? Maybe feign interest in one for sale near you.

My experience would suggest the gearbox software needs a reset - when was the last time the car did a significant mileage journey? The transmission fluid could likely do with a change also.

Its weird because its super smooth all the rest of the time, iv read to be weary of changing the transmission fluid? How do i go about resetting the software?

Nothing wrong with changing the fluid and filter as long as the correct fluid is used.mrkiplin1986 wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2019 7:06 am Its weird because its super smooth all the rest of the time, iv read to be weary of changing the transmission fluid? How do i go about resetting the software?
Also filling to the correct level using the correct procedure.

Search BMW transmission reset process. Very simple, ignition on (do not start engine). Throttle to the floor for at least 30secs. Turn off ignition. Take foot of peddle.
Leave for around 10 mins before driving again. You should notice the gearbox behaviour changes as it goes back into 'learning' mode for approx next 1000 miles.
It's worth doing periodically or at least once a year. Not guaranteed to solve your problem of course.
