Looking to purchase a E70, could you help me?

Post by Ryan1985 » Sun May 05, 2019 5:19 pm

Hi guys, I am new here and come from the forum BMW Land.

I had been recommended to come here for X5 advise.

I am after some advise and information as I am looking to purchase a 2077 to 2010 x5 but I am toying with the idea of the 4.8i.

What are these engines like to work on and how reliable are they?

And real living advise?

Common issues to look for and spec etc?

As much help please.

The vast majority of cars in the uk would have been diesel rather than v8's due to the cost of fuel, The older e53 v8's chain guides tended to break up and end up in the sump not sure if that was sorted for the newer model. Welcome :D

based on having researched and bought one myself about 12 months ago, I'd say:

- service history
- specification...there are loads out there, so be clear what spec you want...mine has comfort seats, panoramic roof, and adaptive lights, all of which are brilliant to have
- tyres...they need to run on matched * rated tyres which are £££s..so check the tyres, if their mismatched then think hard

Good luck with the search

Did you get one?

Only thing i'd add is as above, there not very popular but not sure that's a bad thing perhaps in terms of knowledge etc.

Road Tax is a consideration but only an extra 200 / year.
