2002 4.4 oil change

I am trying to do an engine oil change on my 2002 4.4 v8.
As far as I can see on the side of the sump is a small 17 mm plug with a hex hole in it.
The head depth of the drain plug is about 1/16th inch, hence near impossible to get any purchase on it before the spanner slips.
I have my doubts as to the dealer removing this plug and instead use a suction pump throught the dipstick hole , when doing the oil change.
Any ideas as to how to shift this plug as I have exhausted my stock of open ended spanners, ring spanners, sockets, allen keys to try and shift it?.

Can't help you on the undoing, but the dealer does remove the bolt as on my 740 (same engine), they did not tighten it enough and I got oil everywhere on the floor in the garage.

You could try 'starting' the plug using a very sharp centre punch on the outer edge, or sometimes a pipe wrench will get a grip on the protuding part. If you go that route then I guess you will also need to fit a new plug

I did oil service on the Z3 recently but the X5 despite 100k has been to main dealers for each service/inspection from new.

If your Bentley X5 service manual doesnt cover something this basic I suggest it is seriously lacking.

Hopefully g60renshaw or Jason will be able to advise - both handy with spanners & both have prefacelift 4.4i cars.

Sorry I cant help further.
