Where is everyone?

Post by sapphireblack » Thu Feb 28, 2019 12:34 pm

Is the forum dying?

There used to be a lot more activity on the early days original platform as i recall :|

Even some of the prolific posters seem to have deserted the place, sad :tumbleweed:

It would be nice to think that is true, though the amount of recalls is woeful

Theres no real discussion on upgrades, tweaks or general enhancements like i recall there used to be.

Oh well such is life, or my ageing memory is deserting me like members have the forum.

One thing I have noticed since the big changeover is, that following a google search for anything X5, if you click it, it doesnt take you to the old thread just the Xdrivers home page

I've also noticed this, very annoying, and a possible reason why people don't visit the site so much nowadays.
It could also be that Facebook groups seem more popular as well, i used to own a noble and Pistonheads was the go to place for all things noble related, but now it's all Facebook.

I don’t think the current forum format is helping. I find it far harder to navigate around and threads don’t run as smoothly or as concisely as they used to. Personally the previous iteration was much easier to use and more logical.

I hope it doesn’t disappear over to Tw@tter or F8rcebuck as I don’t use either - nor want to.

I have also noticed that often when you open xdrivers you have to sign in, even although you have clicked the remember me box.

The logging in thing appears to be random, sometimes it's every time sometimes not for days.
Going back to the original post, there is not a lot you can do to the newer cars, all I have done to my X6 is drive it, and while it is great fun, it's a bit boring to write about.
My 4.6 on the the other hand required a full engine rebuild which I wrote about, and plenty of other stuff.
I am on a couple of motorcycle forums, one of which is purely technical and gets 1 or 2 posts a day, the other one is rarely technical and gets hundreds of posts a day.
Guess this site is more like the former now.

Same here, logged in automatically each time I visit the site.

Other BMW forums seem quiet as well, must be the time of year :)
