EGR cooler recall letter
EGR cooler recall letter
I got a recall letter from BMW today for a potential EGR cooler fault. Anyone else had their letter yet? ......Or had the recall done already?
Re: EGR cooler recall letter
There’s an apparent - long wait on parts
The recall is in regards to car fires due to leakage from the EGR cooler,
Dealers remove inspect, if due replacement, I believe it’s a car off the road whilst parts are supplied, due to the volume of cars needing parts, there’s a long wait!
Other forums report 4-6 weeks in hire cars
Though best having it booked in soonest

This is the official recall notice on the DVSA website. Check you build date & VIN to see if you may be affected....

Re: EGR cooler recall letter
I'm booked-in for March 25th. They want the car all day. ........And they don't have an X3 courtesy car, so it will have to be public transport for me that day.
Re: EGR cooler recall letter
Sytner have had mine for 2 weeks now. Had a text yesterday saying they were still waiting for parts.
it was booked in for the work in December and promised they would have a car for me to use.
No cars were available on the day it went in, so they booked me a car through Enterprise.
To be honest I might miss the fully loaded 7 series when I get my car back

Re: EGR cooler recall letter
Finally got my car back after 5 weeks. I ended up posting on BMW UK Facebook page about the dismal service I was receiving and I had a holiday coming up but couldn't carry my dog in the hire car. The next day I got a call saying my car was ready.
Re: EGR cooler recall letter
5 weeks wouldn't be acceptable to me for sure..if I get a recall I will make sure they have the parts in before they get my car.

Re: EGR cooler recall letter
Letter from BMW GROUP just come in post today, my X5 needs to go in.
Re: EGR cooler recall letter
Best of luck with that one! I don't want them having my car 5 hours, let alone 5 weeks. But if they decide it's unsafe & impound it, what are you going to do that others here (and on other forums) haven't tried?
I've got a holiday booked 4 weeks after my recall is due. If the parts supply hasn't sped-up by then, I'm cancelling until after the holiday. I'm buggered if I'm going on holiday in some pile of non-BMW litter - which is what the majority seem to be getting from Enterprise.

Re: EGR cooler recall letter
Mine went in on 14/02/19, car impounded under safety recall! New egr cooler, inlet manifold and cylinder head decoke required. Global back order on parts with no release date forthcoming. Some cars have been at Dealers since Xmas.
Enterprise were most helpful with hire car......volvo xc60(not great!) but better than the 3 series they offered 1st, the dog wasn't happy about going in the boot of a saloon car.
This is all ok accept we purchased the X3 as a tow car for all our family holidays caravaning, you can't get a hire car with a tow bar unless using a specialist company which BMW wont pay for! I missed half term away as no tow car, Easter, May half term and 15 nights in the South of France are all booked away!!!
Some customers have booked cars in just for oil service and then been told their cars are affected by the safety recall and they cant have them back!!

Re: EGR cooler recall letter
Took car in early this morning and I have just received a call to say all good and ready for collection. They did say to me when I dropped car off this morning that mine will more than likely be ok, so don't no if the F15 is different to yours ?? The only down side is on health check, 1 off my cv gators split on front and leaking grease, so it will have to go back for that.
Re: EGR cooler recall letter
When I went in a few weeks ago they told me that they wouldn't speculate on specific cars, but that the majority of the ones they have seen have needed rectification. Their official line is "Parts are on mega back-order. If your car needs parts, BMW will provide transport while your car is off the road.".mark hamster 28 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2019 11:16 amThey did say to me when I dropped car off this morning that mine will more than likely be ok
