Electrics? problem on 3.0d

Post by ChrisLux » Wed Jan 09, 2019 1:06 pm

Hi peeps, long time no hear from me.

My 3.0d is now nearly at KM 300k but I've been having a few probs last weeks;

The speedo and MPG meter, plus trip and total KM's stop working intermittently. There is no rhyme or reason for when they stop, just happens. Sometimes it comes back working for couple KM then stops then restarts again. Other times can go through whole 500 KM journey back to UK and it works fine.

Means that when speedo stops working, MPG meter stops, the KM stop counting, the speed related volume on radio doesn't work either.

I put it on Carly Diagnostic and it came back with;

Instrument cluster / Kombiinstrument
Fault Code: 0000BD
Fault Explanation: :EBV
Fault Code: 0000BF
Fault Explanation: :IKE EEPROM error, coding error / incomplete /
Checksum error EEPROM BMW range / EEPROM checksum error /
KOMBIR40 EEPROM, coding error / incomplete / COMBINED EEPROM
checksum one wrong coding incomplete / IKI EEPROM error, coding
error / incomplete / KOMBI46 EEPROM, coding error / incomplete /
COMBINED EEPROM error, coding error / incomplete

Board Monitor
Fault Code: 000003
Fault Explanation: :PL-line short-circuit to ground / Leakage
diagnostic module / Radio status telegram timeout
Fault Code: 000001
Fault Explanation: :reset / Final stage leakage diagnosis pump /
Watchdog reset

Could anyone shed any light on;

a) what the fault codes are as I can't find them singled out anywhere
b) what on earth is going on

Thxvm in advance
Chris

Sounds like the cluster may be on its way out.......probably a solder joint gone dry somewhere, worth getting another one from a scrap yard and go from there only a 15 minute change really easy to do but disconnect the battery first, should be plenty in LUX, belgium and your not far from Germany....

I did wonder about that thxvm.

However, in Lux we actually have NO breakers yards at all, so looks like I'll be going to Germany as I live on that side :)
