Re: sat nav update
Download BMW Download manager. Pay for update if its not included on DriveConnected and copy to USB stick. Nav should recognise update and install in car. Just did mine last week. Now on 2019 Jan
Re: sat nav update
So you now have a USB with up to date maps just sitting around
Are you local to Notts ?

Where in. It’s are you?
Re: sat nav update
It will usually contain an FSC licence code locked to the specific VIN and doesn’t allow reinstallation in any other vehicle.
I need to do my 2-series but the BMW site doesn’t say how big a USB thumb drive you need. 32GB? That’s what my previous Škoda needed twice a year. My maps are supposed to update automatically every quarter for three years over-the-air but don’t seem to be doing so (apart from the first time last July). The service is showing as on in the ConnectedDrive account page.

Re: sat nav update
Update - you need a 32GB for the E71 (and F46) maps. Interestingly a legit download on a USB3 thumb drive set took more than an hour to reach 10% but a set of USB2 drives did the entire update in 40 minutes. If you buy a download from BMW (£49 for ConnectedDrive equipped cars) and use a USB3 thumb drive then the BMW USB hub in the car may not like it. It should work just fine - though a colleague suggested that USB3 drives use ExFAT and USB2 uses FAT32 as does the BMW hub. I reformatted all of mine with FAT32. Some USB3 drive chipsets don’t like FAT32.
The file(s) I got for mine says it’s locked to the specific VIN and the unlock file is coded into the download for the F46 and a separate FSC for the E71. No idea what ‘other’ providers do.
