F15 19" Double Spokes 467M Tye sizes

Post by wyorksf15 » Mon Oct 01, 2018 8:22 am

Morning all.

The 19" Double Spokes 467M style alloy seems to have the following staggered tyre sizes fitted in summer tyre format:-
Front: 255/50 R19
Rear: 285/45 R19

Yet an extract from the BMW winter wheels brochure states the following tyre sizes for the SAME wheel style:-
255/50 R19 (front and rear)

Can anyone help and shed some light on this please? Does a non-staggered version of this wheel exist? Or is the tyre 'stretched' to fir the wider rear wheels?

Thanks
Matt

Winter sets have the same width alloys all round.  Summer wheels are staggered.

You can run a staggered winter set on normal staggered rims.  I do on my X6.

BMW offer two options of rear rim width - for square or for staggered.  Here is a slide from the BMW Parts Database (Realoem) copy on line....

Note that Item 02 is specific for winter tyres only.

Hi Matt, no the tyres aren’t stretched. The reason for 255 width all round is that winter tyres work better when digging in to the snow as opposed to the wider ones spreading the weight more and therefore sitting on top. Like X5Sport I also run staggered sizes, but that’s more for athstetics. The 255s will sit inside the wheel arch and can look a little lost.

This is a 255 as an example.

I bought a set of identical staggered wheels for my 50d and shod them with pirelli winter tyres. Given that the instances of snow lying on the ground for extended periods is minimal I'm more than happy with that set up.

These tyres work better in colder wetter conditions even in the absence of snow so the larger contact area is not really a problem in my experience. I also agree with the aesthetic point too

I have a spare set of 20" winter wheels which are also staggered.
Last winter with all the snow they performed great and no issues.
I have the Hankook snow tyres non RFT, which are so much better than my Pirelli P zero RFT.
Winter shoes going on by the end of the month.

Can anyone confirm whether the wheels in the gum tree link above will in fact fit a X5?

I was looking at the below from Germany...

Does anyone know if the RDCI (tyre pressure monitoring sensor) will be compatible with our UK F15's?

Depends what look you are after.
I'm not a big fan of the thicker profile tyre especially on the M50d.
Mine are the standard 20" OEM M469 alloys with 35 profile tyres.
Looks the sporty number with the reassurance of driving on winter tyres.

Them are pretty similar to mine arnt they?

Could I not just buy winter tyres for mine then swap them over?

Yes you could if you want to save money on a second set of alloys - its just the inconvenience factor of swapping tyres over on the same set of alloys which you will have to pay for each time.
I would search Ebay to see if you can get a second set cheaply.

E70 and E71 wheels are not interchangeable due to the different wheel centre bores used.  The E71 has a clever torque distribution rear axle system with smaller diameter bores.

Have a search on here as it’s been covered before.  You either need the wheels bored out, or spigot rings to reduce as appropriate.

You need the same date with E53 wherlsets too.  Not certain of the F15/16 bores.
