Hi guys. Hopefully someone on here has done or knows someone who has changed their lcd screen.
What it is.... I’ve got an E39 530d on a 2003 plate. It has the dvd my 4 widescreen display as per the E53 model X5. I need a new lcd screen as mine is starting to develop large dead area’s across the display. I have looked on eBay etc and found its a sharp 6.5” lcd screen. I can only find them if they come from China or Hong Kong, then shipping and import taxes come into play!
Does anybody know where I can pick one up from in the uk? (New only)!!!! I just don’t want a huge customs charge on top of the buying price as although I love my old car and want to keep it original, I didn’t plan on spending the thick end of nearly £200 in doing so.
Any suggestions........?

As it appears that you will change the screen yourself you should try the ribbon repair which, if I remember was to either push it back in or remove, use some contact cleaner and refit. Quite often seems to fix pixel problems. Search ribbon repair

I had read about the ribbon repair. My screen has for years suffered with a segment missing from the display and its from the right hand side like an arrowhead. Recently it has grown and also developed further down. As it’s from the edge and some 15 yrs old I figured that the crystals had seen better days!

are we talking the lcd in the  headunit?
