Hi guys looking for a trustworthy mechanic in Cumbernauld / Glasgow area. My handbrake failed about 3 months ago and my local mechanic put a 2nd hand module on at a cost of £350 or maybe a bit more and It’s gone again!! long story but I’ve no comeback on the garage, an auto electrician has looked at it and can’t diagnose the exact issue. Tearing what’s left of my hair out with this car, so unreliable and starting to hate it but can’t change it just so need a trustworthy mechanic. Tried b&m in yoker Glasgow didn’t rate them

I’d have sent you to B&M as I think they’re excellent but if you’ve had a bad experience there then I’ve also used Deutschtek off of Woodlands Rd in Glasgow and found them good.

The problem could be the second hand unit. If used then it could have been on it’s way to a failure in any event. More than a few owners on here have suffered this very expensive fault, and some more than once with a brand new OEM replacement from BMW.
I have stopped using it on my X6 just in case it goes too!
The problem is the gears inside the actuator shearing and that’s that. Diagnosis is only possible by opening the sealed unit after failure.

I use B for BMW in Clydebank and have not had any problems with them.
I dont know exactly what issue you have with the e-brake but we had an issue with our Z4 e-brake that was fixed with a battery replacement and a software update. This is quite a common problem with the Z4.
