Hit and Run

Just had a phone call from the police accusing me of a hit and run accident
He said i had run a woman over and driven off without stopping :o

I was at my sons earlier today and I pulled onto the opposite side of the road to park. Then started to reverse slowly to close the gap with the car behind looking in the rear view mirror and the reverse camera on the nav screen, moving extremely slowly. I suddenly heard a noise that sounded like I had run over a tin can so stopped and saw this woman walking past the drivers door on the footpath, she was staggering and appeared to be under the influence.
Anyway it turns out she had walked into the side of the X. I still didn't realise what had happened and got out and started looking for the can i thought I had run over.
This woman stopped on the corner nearby and just stood there looking the worse for wear. We went into my sons and came out about 2o mins later and she was still there but with a man. We sat there for another 10 mins as I was on the phone. Not once did she approach me.
I then drove off and went home, a 30 mile drive away. This was to supposed to have happened about half 4.
4 hours later i get the call from plod.
Told my side of the story and that if he wanted to proceed I would fight all the way as in my eyes she was at fault. Informed him I was fully up to speed with road traffic law having been a traffic cop for well over 10 years. She had around 30 mins to approach me, she was obviuosly worse for drink or something.
He then decided that he wouldn't take it any further.
I wonder if she is one of these insurance scammers ???? :x

Bit odd how they got hold of your phone number and then called you up instead of coming over to see you.

Any damage to the X by the way?

The two of them together probably thought it was easy pickings.

Not difficult if they had my reg. no.
they would get my address from the police national computer system
then directory enquiries I would imagine.

Sorry to hear about this Kena it does sound like they're having a go. It funny as when I was reading the first but I remembered you used to be a copper and wondered if you could use your knowledge.

Glad there is no damage to your car. It can't have been as dirty as Jig's!

Un feckin believable is all i can say. They will try anything these low lifes :headbang:
I had a woman once try and sue me for falling over a pot hole once on one of my building sites :headbang:
The temporary bollards surrounding the open ditch were coveniently removed along with the several concrete blocks that were holding said things in place  ......in her statement she said that she was out for her dialy morning run ....even though she lived over 60 miles away when we checked her adress
And all because she wanted a new tracsuit and trainers that were damaged in the so called incident   feckin leaches!!!!

It was more the fact that they felt they could deal with a potential court matter effectively over the phone, that's all. Guess I am out of touch with modern policing practice. And yes, they are deffo trying it on.
