Hi there. I dont know what BMW would be using but INPA is a great piece of diagnostic software for home use and is well worth investing in.

I use a Rockwell Scanner and so far it's been excellent diagnosing:
Throttle body fault
Vent valve tank
Air suspension.

What it cannot do is change any of the program settings such as headlight wash frequency.

Hi Alan
Its a Foxwell 644 Pro. I also bought a cable with CD software that is BMW specific but have not had chance to test it. That engine management light costs me £65 to £75 to reset. So far the BMW has had three resets and another car I have 1 reset. I also reset a mates airbag for a cup of tea and twix bar.
I think if you are going to own a more mature car this sort of stuff along with the forum is invaluable.

INPA is rubbish, crap unless you go on a one week course for it.

For the D.I.Y'r at home you want BMW scanner 1.4.0.

It's a swine to get going on anything other than Windows XP but is most easily usable by most of us at home.

.....Oh....and you need to be able to read, speak and write in German to use INPA !!!!

I have INPA, works fine and is in English....

i find the 1.4.0 works fine for the fault code checking and a few other things. that INPA is far more involved but really hammers the battery , mine was nearly flat after an hour messing trying to get the webasto working.

If playing with most of the diagnostic tools you are well advised to have the car on a charger. It’s not INPA that hammers it but the fact that the electronics are all awake and using power. As I have said elsewhere, these cars are power guzzlers. My X6 draws almost 60A just with the ignition on and doing nothing, and I run out of charge in 20 minutes or less. I have a 10A charger in ‘supply’ mode - feeding a constant 10A in - to keep up, or need the engine running.
