Hi,first post and a question already ! I have just bought a lightly damaged 4.8is (needs a wing and a door),could do with knowing if there are any differences between a pre-facelift and a facelift door ?

Hi I think thay are likely to be the same, but I am sure one of the other members will confirm this,
are you a cat D or are you unregistered ?

Unfortunately its a Cat D but is a very high spec car and is complete with an LPG Conversion. Finally come back to BMW after driving an ML55 AMG for the past year.

Okay that makes two of us on here with cat D, I did a rough repair on my X you can still see the scars and bruises, which I don't mind as I saved myself a lot of money. good luck with yours, that LPG should help keep running costs down

no difference in doors!! only front wing bumper n headlights n bonnet different, plus slight difference in rear tail light clusters and soft close boot lid, other than that the same.

Hi Neil and welcome along fella
AFAIK the doors are the same but quite a few changes were made to modernise the facelift most noticeably the headlights losing the yellow indicators and of course not forgeting the bhp increase if you drive a smoker not that you do with the king of the road there
Here's a list taken from AW8's brilliant buters guide........

Whats different on a Facelift Car ?

Facelift models were made from 9/03 and for the 2004 Model Year, (MY), onwards.

Exterior :

Revised front end - New headlamps, bumper, grill nostrils, bonnet ,wings.

Minor change to rear lights - A keen eye required to identify if following an E53.

Revised alloys.

Interior - Revised 3 spoke steering wheel on sport models with solid spokes. Also dash saw addition of instrument bezel trims.

Power as follows :

3.0d up from 186HP to 218HP
4.4 up from 286HP to 320HP (with slightly better mpg than outgoing model).
4.6is (347HP) replaced in 5/05 with 360HP 4.8is.
3.0i (only engine size without change to engine for facelift).

Xdrive added : Basically more electronics & abilities when things get tricky.

6 speed auto & manual boxes replaced earlier 5 speed items.

Options : Pano roof became the default sliding glass roof option if desired/purchased.
