I'd test the air suspension bags before anything, using soapy water to see if any bubbles form. If both are sagging and it's not because of the bags, then it is likely the compressor, in which case it may be wise to change the compressor valve before thinking of an outright replacement.
I remember watching a Wheeler Dealers episode where Edd China did a compressor repair on a L322 Range Rover - it uses the same system as the E53 X5 and he seemed to do a simple repair to fix it, rather than replace the whole compressor. It did do the trick, I believe the compressors can be refurbished for much cheaper.

Thanks
I’ve had the bags changed 2.5years ago
It’s intermittent
Maybe I’m thinking it’s electrical, or something
I have this part and a spare bag on my way just in case the mechanic requires to swap them out

I think the valve body can be a problem letting air out so you could be on a winner with that new one.

We recently had to replace our failed compressor due to constant leaks, we used an old school local mechanic who went to great lengths to find the cause of the leak that led to the comp failure.......it turned out to be a series of tiny scratches on the air pipes caused by the sealing olives on the pipes allowing air to seep out, replaced pipe set and connectors and no problems at all since. (Expensive lesson learnt)

Had the car inspected
The valve wasn’t changed but the mechanic changed the air bag
He tested with software on rear ride height and only dropped a few millimetres over a course of time
Fitted a new bag and no drop.
Doesn’t answer where the hissing noise came from so will keep an eye on this
Fingers crossed it’s fixed it.
