new boots and tyre update!

Post by x555 » Fri Mar 25, 2011 7:18 pm

Last time i came to change the tyres on the rear the funds were a little short so to speak so i ended up fitting some 'cheapo' Nexen tyres (or ditchfinders as some may say  ) well the time came again today to change the rears again and i can now confirm after a fully used set that imo the tyres were great.
Compared to the numerous other tyres i have had on my x's over the years i cant say that there was any big noticeable difference in grip road noise etc etc other than the tyre wear which being a cheaper tyre you would expect them not to last as long.

The last set at a cost of £88 plus vat per tyre have lasted exactly 15337 miles so in comparison to a set of michelin diamaris at the cost of around the £300 mark that last roughly 30000 miles i think i have had a bargain :D so basicly for a third of the price i'm getting half the mileage of the more expensive tyre.
And trust me this car gets driven so if these tyres had poor grip etc we would know about it.So over all i am pleased with the cheaper tyres so much so i have just replaced them with like for like.........however i was disgusted to find out that they had gone up to £99 plus vat  so i complained and then got them for £95

I know these tyres aren't to everyones taste but if on a budget these tyres are fine and i said that when i originally posted about getting them that i would post up about them once used for others to see.

If anyone has more info on other tyres like cost wear etc it would be good to compare the different set ups for future buyers

I treated the beast to a wash earlier here's a few pics ....

Much nicer car then the grey one you brought to the meet :poke:

The prices quoted, did that include the fitting?

I have the 20's on mine and had Toyos fitted (week old). Total cost was £665 all in. Combi of two online sites.

I hope I get some mileage out of them - fronts at £150 and the rears at £165.

Will be a LONG time before I can give an update. Gonna get them aligned next week (let them bed in, for now).

But at the price you got them x555, that's a no brainer mate. You aligned the new ones (or the old ones at that)?

I'm going to watch this thread for an update as I will need to fit a full set on my 20's later this year and I like the sound of the Toyo's.

How much is the alignment Sanj and where are you getting it done?

Local guys - they have the latest alignment kit, already done a check (free) and it's out. So back there next week for another check and then alignment...

Like x555's logic too. Half the price and half+ the mileage - worth thinking about.

Yes but would need to price up 20's and not the littler things x555 is running

If you mean ride comfort then a slight difference but hardly noticeable. Not much different in cost either but the initial outlay is the stinger ;)
