Hi
I a man still learning about these cars, X5Sport it the ultimate esp when you look at the number of posts but yes I know a bit.
Autotrader is okay but with BMW the history is key even if mileage is a little higher, BMW do approved used cars and these are cars only serviced with them and generally they keep the best for themselves but you do pay a premium for the car, but their approved used warranty is second to none.
The website JamesPaul is very good and he always has too quality BMW's again pricey but you get what you pay for, and if it's too cheap be wary.
Also I found Saxton 4x4 usually have a nice selection but not sure in the price range but. It's worth checking
The key with the car is history showing maintenance being done and given a 2010/11 plate car is now 7 or 8 years old then clearly not all will have been Service by BMW.
Private dealers offer more assurity than a private person, but you have to check as I found some poor cars at BMW and better elsewhere.
Also try th website call Pistonheads as I find the people are more passionate and poss more likely to be an enthusiastic owner who has ensured the car is looked after.
One word of caution the retro fitting on the E70 models forward is costly and require coding one chap had a quote of over £2k from BMW for retro fitting heated rear seats, and I was advised it would be £1500 for a heated steering wheel, so whatever car you get make sure it has all the essential items you want, also if you can get a good spec'd car with comfort seats they are a bonus.
For me I wanted heated rear seats and I found a car with four zone climate as well so rear passengers can change their heating.
The 4.0d would be the one I would go for but you need to make supper the diff/ front prop shaft has been checked. They are awesome and give better fuel consumption than the 3.0d.
