X5 e70 air springs, are the cheap ebay ones suitable

Hi all.

I have a sagging air bag on my passenger side.

BMW are very expensive, Arnott replacements are cheaper and appear to be really good but I have to question the suitability of the ones on eBay that come in at about £50. They come with a 2 year warranty and are manufactured in Germany. I won’t assume they are good quality due to my reservations with the price.

Has anyone fitted these and if so what did you think.

2009 35d M-Sport with 3rd row seats.

Arnott ones are the ones to get, those or BMW ones. They are a company who specialise in air suspension, they know what they are doing.

Thanks Nehal. I’ve ordered a single Arnott one, I’ll try fitting it myself this week.  :)

Arnott have a useful U-tube video of the procedure, but I found my compressor in a different place to them!  Mine is under the driver's seat (front right).

Good luck,

Graeme

Maybe the compressor location changes according to whether you have third-row seating or not, as I believe the compressor may be in the front if there is third row seating, otherwise its under the boot floor in the back, similar to the suspension system on the L322 Range Rover. BMW used the systems in the E53 X5 and the L322, so they may be the same suspension systems carried over into the E70, although could be wrong.

Well, my car does have third row seating which would explain your theory about compressor placement!  And yes, the mechanic who changed it for me is a Land Rover specialist and he pointed out the similarities to Range Rover.

I had punctured one on left side but i got pair form Arnott, pretty easy job to replace. Replaced these myself. Arnott ones in my opinion looks better made compared to genuine ones, but I would suggest stay away from cheap Chinese ones from china or shipped from germany. Arnott or genuine only.
Arnott has easy fitting then normal ones, they have push fit connections so dont try to undo the nuts for fitting these. slightly cut off the old used pipe tip to make a smooth and leak free connection. you should be good to go.
