Dear fellow readers  8)

I have come across the above vehicle in black (with black leather), 2 owners from new with FSH. Asking £14,500. Extras include:

heated seats
rear privacy glass
20 inch alloys

Seems a very good price given the above (doesn't have all the extras I want but beggars can't be choosers I guess). Any thoughts/suggestions before I part with my hard owned savings?!

Thank you gratefully  :)
(excited soon to be X5 driver, hopefully)!

Howdy

I would suggest that is quite a high price given that you have not listed any of the more expensive toys on it.
To give you some idea look at this forum post - http://xdrivers.co.uk/forum/index.php/t ... 217.0.html

It might be worth holding on for the spec you really want.  Many of the toys are very expensive to retro fit. There was a case on here where heated rear seats were a few hundred quid as a factory option which became £2000 to retro fit.

I have seen some 2011 X40D going for around 15K.  These will be  more powerful and lower on tax due to lower emissions. They will also have the newer idrive etc.

Good luck with the hunt :o)

Hi there

Thank you for your thread. We did not buy the car which I mentioned in my earlier post as the plastic was peeling off next to the buttons on the steering wheel! This is not something I was envisaging when spending this sort of money!

Therefore, I am thus back on the hunt. This one below looks quite good. Our budget could stretch to £17k I guess as we want very low mileage

Seems very expensive for a pre LCI X5 the CCC IDrive is very dated in my opinion.
I would expect an LCI car for that sort of money

The paint is also peeling off the steering wheel on my 2007 3.0D!  disappointing in such a quality car.  Does any member have the same issue and is there a solution like some sort of re spray?

Almost £17K for a 2009 - I would be almost tempted to sell my 2011 X40D for around that sort of money.
I guess its all down to the individual preference, low mileage is great but for me personally I would prefer average mileage and a high spec.  I set myself a minimum spec, of Panoramic roof, media pack, with satnav, dvd, bluetooth audio streaming and heated seats.  Media pack and roof are over £3000 factory options alone.
Youll get all that you want = just got to wait for the right one.  Remote powered tailgate wasnt something on my list but its really handy!!

Lower mileage is important to us, as feel it is less likely things will go wrong that way. Personal preference at the end of the day I guess. All those extras you have listed of course would be ideal but FSH, low mileage and 2 owners max from new are the parameters for me. I do have time on my side too  :)

Full service history is a must for me.  You have to remember that these were £50K + when new.  While the price of the car decreases the cost to repair and maintain them doesnt.  I had to replace all 4 tyres recently with * BMW rated tyres and only get a few quid change out of £900.

You could look at warranty in case of anything horrible happening.  I actually havent got this as I couldnt justify the £2000 quote from BMW.  I know many follks on here do have warranty, in some cases the maintenance costs under warranty have exceeded the face value of the car when something serious goes wrong.

Touch wood, apart from servicing and tyres I havent spent a penny in the last 14 months  :) :)

It was a problem on the E53 and probably most BMW's inc my E93 3 series
I replaced the trim on the E53 and wrapped the trim on y
The E93, as the trim was £100 for that one

My previous second hand BMW which I bought have had low mileage (under 50k). These cars were not cheap when new but given they were 6-9 years old at the time I bought them, the large proportion of the depreciation has already happened. That said you are going to lose money on nearly all cars (excluding collectors cars). I get that. With my budget of approx £17k I want to get a clean car, 2 owners max from new, FSH (a given) and mileage under 60k (sweet spot in the low 40's). I have seen a few pop up on Autotrader so it is just a matter of time before the right comes becomes advertised.  ::)

Just paid £13500 for a 99k 2010 40d Sport with a great spec, don’t be tempted by a pre LCi for silly money.
