Remap!!! The Thorn in my Side

Evening Everyone,

This is going to be the most straight forward post anyone's ever looked at!! If i remove the ECU from my X5 40d can it be checked ?? Does a remap leave a digital footprint ??
I want to prove to my finance company that the Piece of S**T that i bought was remapped & i didn't even know as the dealer led me to believe that the Vehicle was an excellent buy..............................Bulls**t
Im in a massive dispute with the finance company regarding this..............£28,000 in lost revenue because the rights we have as a consumer is absolutely disgusting.

My work van had been remapped and the only way I found out was when it started misbehaving....took it to an indi Merc specialist and he plugged it in to dealer level diagnostics and said its been remapped as he couldnt read the parameters properly, so Im sure if you take it to BMW or a specialist who has dealer level diagnostics they will be able to tell you and give you in writing that it has for the finance company.

Where did you get the car from? Can you not take it back to them as they miss sold the car if you weren't told it had been chipped! Why did they not offer a warranty on purchase to fix the original fault?

Remap does leave a trace.  You will need to remove the ECU from a 40d.  Dealer level software is needed though.  You/they will be looking for a ‘checksum’ as this gets changed when a remap is done.  A BMW Dealer will be able to pick up the change as it is how they spot this.  BMW servers will overwrite the map if the car is plugged into their updating system because their servers see it as an error so ‘repairs’ the code by overwriting it.  If the car is under warranty then they will walk away.

Owners are supposed to declare changes when selling a car and to their insurers too.  Many don’t though.

We would need the car to come down to us so we can look at it

It will all depend on if the company who did it spent the time to correct the data so to stop the dealers software bringing up tuner protection data and so on

This needs to be tested on the car
