Hi All, this question should be straight forward. Flying stone has cracked front headlight plastic cover. Are the covers a separate unit/spare part therefore easily replaced or do you have to buy the whole frigging headlight system? Cheers Guys.

Complete unit I’m afraid.
Realoem will give you the part numbers (use the last 7 of your VIN in Serial Number for your model) and that will allow you to trawl tinternet for a decent second hand unit. OEM new units are VERY expensive - around £350 depending upon version (Halogen, Xenon, Adaptive etc). I used mid 2009 as the year but that may be wrong, you need to let us know which version you have
LCI versions may be more expensive due to the LED lighting of the angel eyes.
Newtis dot com tells you how to change it, as will lots of videos in the usual places.

I almost had to buy a new adaptive xenon headlight about 2 years ago.
Price was £950+vat new if I recall...
Regular xenon was about 750 I think.. both pre LCI

Ouch! Was that complete with all of the electronics, or just the basic lamp?

Think that was the whole lamp...
Mine wouldn't open the shutter when going to full beam..
Thankfully I got it covered under extended warranty

Dear Members,
Thank you all for your many replies and I am naturally disappointed to hear that the front headlight plastic covers are all part of one sealed unit. Obviously this makes it mega expensive to replace when all you have got is a crack in the cover! As suggested, maybe EBay is the way to go which worked well before when I replaced a cracked rear lens.
To Lez, thanks for your advice and I will add details of my vehicle in the future if the details are relevant and helpful to the question.

The plastic lens can be replaced and loads of them for sale on eBay . Vidéos on youtube showing how to do it. Just search E70 headlight lens replacement.
