There is no manual available for the diesels.  The only version is as above, left hand drive and petrol only (for the US market).

On line there is newtis dot info - looks like a copy of the official instructions, or you can buy CDs on fleabay.

I had this dilemma my self recently - I was sure Haynes would do a manual for the X5 - but no! My previous car was a 5 series 3.0D, for which I had a Haynes manual, which covers the engine side of most things - but not all! I purchased  Bentley manual through Amazon for £55 which was used, but in pristine condition, as new they are over £90!!! The Bentley manual only covers petrol models LHD as X5Sport says, but is very comprehensive, and very OTT with the safety aspects of servicing - probably rightly so, but gets a bit boring when warnings are repeated as often as they are!!

I am hoping that Haynes may have a manual available in the not too distant future, as they tend to be helpful in getting around the use of the many special tools that BMW seem to delight in using, which Bentley are not so helpful with. In general though, you should be OK using the two manuals together, and youtube for the bits that neither cover! A case in point for me a few days ago, was changing the air filter, the Haynes manual did cover some of the procedure, but as the X5 is laid out differently under the bonnet there were other things that needed to be done that I had to resort to youtube to see what to do - in this instance a right PITA to do, which seems so un-necessary for an essential service replacement. Why on earth the filter could not have been fitted from the top with a screw on lid, rather than having to remove it sideways when you have eventually persuaded the cover to come off, which also needs the screenwash reservoir to be taken off to allow clearance - is crazy.

It is SO simple on the petrol models, so why does it have to be such a chore on the diesels? It is beyond me!!
If in doubt, and all else fails - read the instructions!!  :) :)

brings back memories from a couple of decades ago as a student, spending time at halfords reading haynes manual to fix various bits on my 1.3 ford escort popular.  The internet has come a long way since then
