Lift off over-whine

It's an odd one..
I bought a 12 plate AUC 40d E70 a few weeks ago..
I've noticed that if I lift off at about 50mph there is what I can best describe as a whine... It does change pitch with speed (but only slightly). It's there a little under acceleration I think
My gut feeling is/was its the new tyres on the car but I'm 1500 miles in now and it's still there...if I kick it into N it's still there. (Not sure of the transfer case is disengaged in N)
There is no clunking or shudder - but for a while it was pushing and pulling when on full.lock at low speed (unlike my 07 X5).
Suspicion is
A) tyres
B) wheel bearing
C) transfer box / X drive
It's AUC and it's not getting any worse - so no worries about a time bomb but I'd like to understand what it could be...
