X5 M50d wheel alignment

Backstory - cars a 2017 / 67” with around 1,000 miles. Car was bought from sytner in Sheffield with around 600 miles on the clock by my father in law. Been offered the car for a good price but wanted to get wheel alignment sorted out before I buy it. Steering wheel is off centre ( left hand down ). Took the car to get aligned today by a specialist on a John Bean machine. Once car was aligned and everything was in spec I took it for a drive and wheel is still off centre and left hand down. Garage thinks the steering needs to be calibrated as everything is reading within spec..

First question is, I know where geo isn’t covered under warranty but the cars barely been driven and alignment is off already. The garage we purchased car from is around 350 miles away so going back there is a no go. Called the dealer who supplied the car and they claim the car was perfect and will get back to me mon morning to let me know if they will cover the cost of alignment.

Second is has anyone has this issue with the F15 chassis X5 and was is rectified easily by KDS alignment ?

Hi, it may be that the steering toe-in/toe-out had to be slightly adjusted but that the adjustment was carried out on one track rod only, instead of equal amounts to both offside and nearside track rods.
It only needs a small adjustment to make the steering wheel become off centre. Adjusting only one track rod is a quick and lazy way of doing a small toe-in/toe-out adjustment and this is a common issue resulting in a slightly offset steering wheel.
Also check if the indicators cancel equally on left and right turns, another indication that the steering wheel is slightly offset. Depending on the amount the steering wheel is incorrectly offset, you can also do a lock to lock check by setting the steering wheel exactly dead centre, put some tape at top dead centre then turn from lock to lock, counting the number of turns, then divide the number of turns by two and then turn the wheel to dead centre by counting the number of turns. The steering wheel should now be exactly dead centre, if not then check the length of each track rod.
All this assuming of course that the steering wheel has not been interfered with of course .

I thought the steering rack was partially electronic ? Surely it wouldn’t be effected like say an old 1980’s car! I would have thought its a potentiometer kind of issue somewhere, however i may be completely wrong!!!

Decided against buying the m50d which is a shame. It’s a beautiful car to drive.

Alignment was attempted twice by bmw and both times the steering wheel is sitting ever so slightly to the left.

Anyone else had alignment issues with the X5?
