**Oops just realised this should be in E53 and not E70 - could a MOD please move this for me - thanks**
Hi All,
Be gentle I'm a newbie
Bought the Mrs a 2006 X5 3.0d over the weekend and we now await delivery from the BMW dealer. The Car is Sapphire Black with the Sports Plus Pack, Premium Pack, Climate Pack and Communications pack along with a few more gizmos. I guess it pretty much has all the option boxes ticked!!
Whilst out on a test drive around town we were averaging 28mpg but on the OBC I noticed a consumption 1 and consumption 2 - these both displayed different figures to the on board display near the speedometer - can someone explain what these 3 different readings are for!?!?!?
Would also be interested in hearing your MPG figures for a 3.0d with the 20" Wheels around town without any motorway driving. Car should be here Friday so will post pics up this weekend
Thanks

I use CONS1 for the consumption per tank and I reset it whenever I fill up, and CONS 2 for the average over 3,000 miles - or any figure you choose. The data flag changes to MPG but that is only a readout of whichever CONS you pick as being on at the time once the OBD drops to its normal operation mode. In other words, if you toggle through to CONS1 and leave it, the CONS1 will be replaced by 'MPG' after a short time.
In terms of mpg around town - around 25. Milton Keynes is full of roundabouts and is murderous to good MPG figures...and tyres

I don't have 20" wheels, but get around 28-30 in town, 35 on motorway.
There have been a few posts in the past discussing mpg figures, so if you have a browse / search around you will come across them.

Just trying a Power/Eco map from Jason which seems to indicate 28/29mpg on OEM 20s with a mix of the Bristol Meet (190 miles) and now local mileage.
Used to be 3 mpg less - BUT I have one injector not working right so I think the figure could go up another mpg? Or remain at this figure with more local mileage which is more typical for me.

I average 28 ish around town, however, I had a meeting at Heathrow this morning, Birmingham to Heathrow and back averaging 100mph and the beast has returned 36.7 to the gallon and it's in dire need of a service too !!

Averaged 100mph?! Crikey! And 36.7 mpg at an average 100mph is phenomenal.
I'm amazed but have to assume you've done the sums right (or is that the OBC reading?)

I managed to see 36.6 though I was only doing 70 mph, and I did do a reset just before entering the motorway, as I have not had a Remap yet I thought the computer was probably wrong, I will now try and do a more accurate measurement on how far a tank full will get me.

That was the OBC reading! I was amazed myself, re-set before I got on the motorway and looked at it as I pulled back on my drive, chugging around town it's always mid 20's
