What is one of these , my car smoke's alot when first run everyday for about 30mins even on tick over it smokes bad for 30mins and the smell is killing but after that no smoke at all for the rest of the day, could it be this webaso unit like alot of people say?????????????????? i have a BMW E53 X5 3.0d manaul.

It's the device mounted on the left front inner wing in this photo.......it's called a Thermo Top and is made by Webasto.



It's the Auxiliary Heater which is fitted to the diesel versions and kicks in below 5C to more rapidly heat the engine coolant. If you have the full Auxiliary Heating Option fitted then it can be set up to heat the interior of the car for a few minutes before you go out and start the engine and set off to wherever. It has an exhaust line that runs down the inside of the inner wing and goes to a small silencer mounted approx under the front passenger seat. When it first starts you can hear a ticking noise from the left side of the car.
